Safran and total energy to establish strategic cooperative partnership to speed up the decarburization in the airline industry

On September 27, 2021- safran (TotalEnergies) and total energy company signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly develop the industry of decarbonization technology and business solutions.

Based on the two companies in 2050 to achieve the grand goal of net zero carbon dioxide emissions in the main partnerships to accelerate to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the airline industry.Sustainable aviation fuel plays a key role in the plan.

This cooperation will use safran and total can respectively in sustainable development and effective utilization of aviation fuel company performance excellence and professional ability, and form on the whole value chain and use instances of knowledge understanding, at the same time will be the goal of sustainable development together.

The partnership aims to make the current in the short term the engine and the sustainable aviation fuel containing up to 100% of the compatible.In the long run, this will help to optimize the engine/fuel energy efficiency and environmental performance.

Such cooperation is likely to spread to other areas, such as the fuel system compatible with sustainable aviation fuel, or develop a new generation of battery system for electric motor.

The agreement focused on three key areas:

• Research, technology and innovationBuilding blocks, develop core technology, and through the propulsion system ground test and engine test machine flight test for review.
• Sustainable aviation fuelThe total energy production and supply in France, in order to realize the safran aircraft and helicopter engine test of decarburization in France.

Sustainable jet fuel is a significant reduction in air transport of the carbon dioxide emissions pragmatic solutions, it can not change the existing supply chain under the condition of infrastructure, aircraft or engine to use up to 50% of the blends.Safran is used in the aircraft in 100% sustainable aviation fuel related projects of key participants.

French legislation requiring all by 2022 on departure flight from France to use at least 1% of sustainable jet fuel, and as the Green agreement (European Green Deal) part of the European commission asked by 2025 will increase to 2%, the proportion increased to 5% by 2030.
